1. How long before my project is complete?

Each project is unique. The timeline is dependent upon the amount, type, and format of copy we are supplied with, and the depth of the project requirements. For example: personal web sites can be completed within 7-10 days, with small business web sites having a 30-60 day development period where as larger corporate web sites can extend beyond 90 days. Most print media projects are completed within a 14-day period—excluding booklets and manuals.

After we complete our analysis of your requirements we will assign a timeline outlining how we will proceed with your project. This allows you to follow us through the process and keeps you informed as to the level of completion of your project.

The timeline is affected by the editing process if there are changes to the layout throughout the design phase.

2. Do I have to provide all of the images for my project?

No. We have a large collection of clip art and photography to suit all requirements. We can also take digital images of your products, or scan in existing photographs.

Images are not limited to existing copy, our graphics department can create custom images to meet your specifications and requirements.

3. How often can I update my pages?

Your pages can be updated as often as you like. Most people update their pages with the seasons; or once new products or new pieces of work become available.

We offer two forms of hosting: managed and independant.

    • Managed hosting means we do all your updates and changes, we do what we do best, you do what you do best.
    • Independant hosting means you can do your own updates and changes, for when you want to be more hands on.

4. How does the form mailer work?

A form mailer is an effective and efficient way to allow viewers of your web site to submit comments, questions, and queries quickly, securely, and without leaving your web site. Form mailers are ideal for all web sites, especially for contact and feedback pages.

5. What will my web site address (URL) be?

We will register your domain name of choice (www.yourcompany.com) with any of the suffixes available (.com, .biz, .net, .org, .ca, .tv, etc.). A separate invoice is issued for this service and payment is required upon receipt to ensure the domain name is transferred into your name. OpenUX retains ownership of the name until the invoice is paid.

You may (a) come to us with your domain name already registered, (b) purchase only the domain name through us, or (c) purchase our hosting and maintenance plan which includes a free domain name as long as you host with us.

We do not make any money off of the domain registration process. Outside of our hosting plan we register domains with Network Solutions. Their prices start at US$35/year. We suggest a minimum 2 year initial purchase. Contracts are available in 1, 2, 3, 5, and 10 year terms. Discounts are available for the longer terms.

6. What are the average costs for web sites?

The median cost of a small business web site is $5,000. We have created sites for as little as $1,000 and as much as $23,000. Cost is dependant upon various factors. During the consultation an estimated final cost will be calculated to give you room to budget for the project. Final costs are subject to change throughout the project all changes must be signed off for by both the client and OpenUX.

7. What is the "Client Area?"

The Client Area is a secure password protected area at our web site where we post images, files, and reports as to the progress of current client projects. If your project is suited to this feature we will provide you with a specialized URL, username, and password to gain access to your development folder. We encourage you to monitor the progress of your project throughout the process of its development by using this service.

8. Can other clients view my development folder?

No. When you access the Client Area you are asked for a username and password, which gives you access to the lobby of this area.

In the lobby you will click on your corporate alias to access your development folder - you may or may not be asked to enter your username and password again*.

If you try to access another client's development folder you will be asked to enter your username and password, if it does not match those specified in the master file you will be denied access. Our security department monitors all log-in attempts.

9. I wasn't asked for a password the second time why?

The username and password you are given allows you to access the lobby of the Client Area and your development folder. You were not asked for your username and password when entering your development folder from the lobby because the session (when you logged into the lobby) was still active.

10. Can I remain anonymous in the Client Area?

We understand the need for anonymity, which is why we encourage the use of corporate aliases for our Client Area. We suggest using an alias that is easy for you to remember. We will not use aliases that are the actual names of other companies. Generally we assign an alpha numeric code to your project and you can identify your folder by that number.

In unique situations we are more than pleased to separate your files from the lobby of the client area. In such situations we will provide you with a custom page to log in from.

11. How long is my commitment to OpenUX?

Your commitment begins with signing the contract for services, which is drawn up following the initial consultation, and ends upon completion of the contract as per the contract terms. That commitment may be as short as a week or longer than a year.

This contract is binding. You have a commitment to pay $1,000 or 50% (whichever is more) of the estimated total cost of the services requested upon signing of this contract, and the remaining amount on account of the actual total cost (including changes if made) upon completion of the project and/or delivery of product.

12. What do I get as a deliverable?

Web site project deliverables consist of a CD-ROM of the web site as it is upon completion, uploading of the web site to the desired server (note that we offer very affordable hosting and maintenance), the receipt for the purchase of the domain name, and a transfer of copyright form.

Print media project deliverables consist of a CD-ROM of the print media files in PDF format, the original production format (Pagemaker, InDesign, Publisher, Quark XPress, etc.) and a full colour printout of tabloid and smaller size projects. We can refer you to acceptable printers. We do not do mass printing.

TOP

13. Why don't you accept credit card orders online?

The services we provide do not suit payment by credit card online. We accept cash (in person), certified cheques, money orders, and bank drafts. In exceptional cases we can arrange for online credit card payment, however there will be an additional 5% charge per credit card transaction.

TOP

14. Do I need to sign a contract to use your services?

Yes. An extensive contract is drafted following the consultation stating, among the legal outlines, the project goals, the specifics (i.e. for web sites: number of pages, cost of pages, etc.), the expected timeline and the estimated final cost.

This contract may be amended throughout the project development due to unpredictable alterations of the project goals. Should a change occur that affects the final cost the project will not proceed without explicit consent from the client. All other changes do not require contract amendments.
